October 15 was the night of our annual dinner and dance to elect new officers for the Chordsmen and celebrate the year. This being our 50th Anniversary year made the night extra special. The event was held at the new Sacred Heart Downtown on George St in Sydney, and the dinner was catered by Executive Chef Mark Patterson and Mise en Place Catering. MC for the evening was former Chordsmen Joe Curry. We were honoured to have an opening presentation from Ken Clarke, the very first Director of the Cape Breton Chordsmen back in 1972.
Song filled the beautiful venue as the crowd was entertained by Cape Breton chapter quartets “Class Act” and “Quattro” and numbers from the full Cape Breton Chordsmen ensemble. There was even a special presentation made to our current Director, Mr. Hal Higgins, recognizing his outstanding contribution as chorus director for the past 40 years.
The rest of the evening had everyone on their feet dancing to the
music by Majestic DJ services.
The evening also included the installation of officers for the chorus for 2023:
President: Alfred Dinaut
Past President: Gerald Farrell
Membership VP: Mike Finigan
Music VP: Rex Dunn
Secretary: Tom Miller
Treasurer: Alan Skinner
Chorus Director: Hal Higgins
Assistant Chorus Directors: Reid Moore, Glenn Drodge, Brandon Mollon
Chorus Manager: Calum MacQuarrie
A spectacular night of celebration indeed.
